If I were anyone but me,
You are who I'd want to be.
We are different yet so much the same,
I even gave you my favorite name.

When I was little and dreamed of you,
I knew that you would be creative too.
But since we are different yet so much the same,
I wasn't sure how you'd play out life's game.

When I look at you I'm so proud you see,
Because you are more than I could ever be.
But since we are different yet so much the same,
You've helped me live a life without any blame.

When you were small how could I have known,
How beautiful and talented you'd be when grown.
But since we are different yet so much the same,
I gave you my dreams as soon as they came.

I hope that in life you will find a way,
To pass on my thoughts and hopes someday.
Since we are different yet so much the same,
I hope on your heart engraved is my name.

So that as time passes and life goes on,
There will be a part of us that never is gone.
Then someone that's different yet the same as we,
Will carry our thoughts throughout eternity.

Love, Mom
