Then Came a Flood
by
Patricia Blake

There is no way to tell you
What you mean to me
But then came a flood
That helped me plainly see.

I have the very best family
And friends and neighbors too
But funny thing about that
It’s something I already knew.

A flood can open your eyes
To things you should already see
How important a picture, a poem
Or a handmade gift can be.

It seemed like we were too busy
Life felt like it was closing in
But then came a flood
And I couldn’t figure out how we’d win.

I never saw a rainbow
But I knew that it was there
Then people came that I didn’t know
To help and show they cared.

The rainbow started suddenly
First a look, and then a hand
In between there were prayers, calls
Gifts and help from all over the land.

Life was going forward
One day at a time
But then came a flood
And it stopped on a dime.

Now we start all over
Look up and you will see
A bright and shining rainbow
From you to God to me.
